Artist Statement

I grew up on the dusty streets of Camino San Acacio, in the heart of old Santa Fe. A creative spirit, resilient as the wildflowers, vast as the blue sky, dancing like pollen between the trees. I was free, yet held together like adobe clay, by art and thorny roses.

I had relatives who were gold and silversmiths. The first time I witnessed the art of metalsmithing, I was around seven years old. I was enchanted by this alchemy, knowing in some part of my being that I would find my way to this craft.

In 2019 I inherited some equipment; hand carved tufa molds and stamps, an acetylene tank and an old turquoise bench. I never did believe in coincidence, so I started calling in my childhood wish, and aligning my actions and ideas. And the rumors are true; when you listen to the calling of the heart, the magic of the ok universe reveals. Teachers have come in many forms, as well as challenges, each preparing me for this path.

Being taught to cast, forge and stamp ingot, my style is inspired by gritty old southwest and modern high polish techniques, fusing traditional and contemporary nuance. The rich diversity, symbolism and seasons of the southwest resonate through me at my bench, and inspire my designs.

Adornment for me is a ritual act of accentuating your unique and authentic expression; an act of celebrating, honoring and investing in yourself. For this I give thanks for every piece that I can create and for those who choose one of a kind, handmade and family owned.
