Artist Statement

Bruce C. Moffitt has been interested in precious metals and gemstones since he was in school. This love of the products of mother earth led him to the study of Geology at the University of New Mexico where he got his degree and then set out to work as an exploration geologist in Mexico, Australia and Papua New Guinea. He has collected stones and silvermsithing techniques for the past 40 years. His love of silversmithing was born while watching a Navajo silversmith set a claw from a bear he killed in the Pecos Mountains.

Moffitt's jewelry reflects this love of stones. For many pieces, he does his own cutting of interesting and unusual stones. This gives his jewelry unique eye appeal for those who prefer something different. His pieces are heavy to the touch, the weight of the silver becoming an integral part of the design. Comfort of wear is another serious consideration in a Moffitt design and people love the fit and feel of his bolos, bracelets and other pieces. Bruce Moffitt lives in the East Mountains near Albuquerque, and despite his many travels, has considered New Mexico home since the early 60's.
